Something I have been sitting with as a first-time founder right now.

We are all feeling it. Costs up. Consumer confidence down. The economic mood in the UK is genuinely uncertain, and nobody quite knows how long this contraction lasts or what comes out the other side.

And I notice that most of the advice floating around is some version of: push harder, pivot faster, grow through it.

Which might be right. But it also might be the same logic that got us here.

I wrote something on Substack this week that started with my own experience of building a business around my body's rhythms, specifically my menstrual cycle, and ended up somewhere I did not expect: a genuine argument that the contraction phase, whether in your body, your business, or the wider economy, is not the problem. It is the point.

I pulled in Hofstede's research on why the most economically resilient societies are built around cooperation rather than dominance, looked at how the circular economy challenges the growth-at-all-costs logic, and asked whether this moment of global economic difficulty might actually be an invitation to rethink things rather than just survive them.

It is a bit unusual for a business post. It starts with my period. Bear with me.

If you are a founder who has ever felt guilty for a slow week, or wondered whether the way we are taught to think about growth is actually working for anyone, I think it might resonate.

https://open.substack.com/pub/turanaa/p/is-sustainability-feminine?r=2b6ey9&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Hi everyone,

I’m at the early stage of building a business and would really value some advice on how best to structure it. I’m a professional fighter and have developed a system based on my own lived experience of training, weight cutting, managing stress and cortisol, recovery, and maintaining performance as I’ve got older, focused on women training seriously and balancing performance with long-term health. I’ve also been tracking my progress through tools like body composition scans, which have shown strong recovery, lean muscle retention, and a lower biological age, helping shape what I’ve built.

So far I’ve created a core daily protocol with additional layers for fight camp, weight cuts, and recovery, and my intention is to monetise this starting with a digital protocol, then expand into personalised plans, and longer term potentially products or partnerships.

I’d really value advice on the best way to structure this from the start, whether to focus on digital, coaching, or a mix, how to properly validate before investing further, and any common mistakes to avoid in this space, and I’d also be interested in connecting with anyone who has built in health, fitness, supplements, or digital products.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
