Right now, if you owe tax on side income, you can choose to pay it in one go, or spread it interest-free through your PAYE tax code. From 2029, HMRC plans to remove that choice — automatically adjusting your tax code to take the money straight from your wages instead.
In the first year (2029/30), some people could face a "double hit" — paying off last year's bill and an estimated payment for this year, both at once.
